Eleven years ago, after the last war with Scything Crag, the Church of the Ivory Throne commissioned four orders of knights, in order to have its own warriors to keep the faithful strong. Now on their second generation, each order one hundred warriors strong, they have a specific mandate that directs them to keep the peace in Temir. Answering to no one but the marshals of the church itself, their authority is limited within the cities by the sea. On the frontier, they travel alone or in companies to carry out their missions.
The Dawnstar Knights dedicate themselves to Serik, the lord of the Golden Throne. Trained to seek out dark places and bring the light of Serik there, they can be found on the frontier hunting dangerous creatures and evil spellcasters. Often working with the Rangers of the frontier, the Dawnstar Knights spend their efforts trying to break the hold of evil in Temir. While all the templar orders are commanded from Satu Mare, and most knights can be found on the frontier, the Dawnstar Knights train in Malkara, under Master Nickelhide.
An order devoted to Almaz, the child goddess, the knights of the Hospitaler order dedicate their time to healing the sick and wounded. They typically serve as field medics in companies of warriors and healers in frontier outposts, as warrior healers and leaders. Hospitalers train in Therengrad, kept apart from the mages of the TSR by the watchful eye of Chaplain Anri.
While most templars are warriors first, the Hearth Defenders are farmers. The chosen of Keres, goddess of field and fowl, they aid homesteaders on the frontier, working to protect them and expand the sphere of civilization into the untamed wild. Training in Logis, just east of Roakewood, they cut their teeth settling Rill Iryss under Master Rooks.
Temir a land of boundaries and thresholds, and not all of them are visible. There are thin places where the creatures of other planes cross over into the world. The Gatekeepers, templars of Gulnur, are there to hold the line. Trained in Se'Dath under the tutelage of Rhiannon Black, they can be found where ever the planes are thin, hunting the demons and monsters that pass through those hidden gates.
The fifth order was founded after the Unhallowed Heresy ten years ago, when the walking dead went to war with the living realm. Lone warriors, the Inquisitors'mandate is to root out evil that threatens the faithful, wherever it may dwell. Fear, fire, and faith are their weapons, and they make a habit of turning up where they are least expected. Typically veterans of previous campaigns, Inquisitors are not trained, they are born.
