Dear E,
First things first: You may want to keep an eye out for the Tong. Just a heads up. There may have been something of an incident, and someone that looks a lot like you might have done something that might make them slightly unhappy. Maybe a couple of things. If that were hypothetically the case, I'd keep your head low.
I suppose that merits an explanation.
Well, we were en route back from a fetch mission where several of us almost died. (Not me, for the record. Everyone is fine now, if rattled.) We decided to investigate a village that was burning down when we went past it on the way out. (More accurately everyone argued about whether it was any of our business, and I just sort of went there and they followed me.) The professional talkers went and did their thing, and I followed Vani to talk to some children, since she seems to need adult supervision at all times. Not surprisingly, the children wound up vastly more useful than the adults (kids hear things) and we learned that some Witch Hunters had razed large chunks of the village, and one of them was probably stowed away in a barn.
Naturally, since it was not particularly any of our business, we checked it out. There was a fellow in the house whose hands had been badly mangled, so I patched him up and we chatted with him a while. Turns out the Comonna Tong had broken his hands because he wouldn't pay them. (Leave it to me to patch up someone that's been beat up by the Tong, right?) Long story short, the guy with the broken hands had called in the Witch Hunters to mess up the guy who ran the town, since he was in league with the Tong. The Witch Hunter is still in the town, as far as I know.
Now we are getting geared up to travel again. I'll have to tell you the details of that one later, since there's some degree of covertness involved. I'm sure you'll hear about it in future letters.
Got your package. Seems like it was probably a lovely bit of craftsmanship, before the journey across the country had its way with it. I appreciate the thought. Hope your caravan is doing well. Will write again soon.
