Dorian is the son of Louis Keene, a once-renowned magic item artificer. After the Unraveling, Louis's business evaporated. Despondent, Louis took his own life, leaving  12-year-old Dorian and his mother to fend for themselves. His older brother, Lancel, was abroad at the time of the Unraveling, and has not been heard from since. Up until he hastily signed up to as an auxiliary ranger with the Taer'Sulei, Dorian had been carefully navigating both the upper crust and seedy underbelly of Isard. His hideaway had been the abandoned artificers' forge in the university of Isard.
