Formerly a fortress of the Taer’Sulei, Ban-Uldud fell into private hands long ago, becoming the possession of Heaven’s Ocean, a company of mercenary knights. The signs of Heaven’s Ocean still remain on the walls of the fortress, but it fell into the hands of private warlords long ago, the property of the man or woman with the strength to hold it.
Battered from the recent war, its walls stand strong despite a lengthy siege from the forces of Scything Crag. Its last ruler, General Keziah, weathered the war but could not weather the peace, dying recently in his sleep. Warriors from across Temir and the Samarese City States journey to become the new warlord and command the loyalty of the fortress.
Five years ago, the challenge was settled, and Ban-Uldud is now ruled by the blue dragon Voltamar, who defends the city and collects a cut of all of its treasure, from the mercenary companies who winter there to the petty thievery in the streets. As yet, Voltamar's leadership remains unchallenged, though she occasionally obliterates a knight as an object lesson.
Locations of note:
- Ban-Uldud has its own thieves' guild, based in an inn against the wall called the Half-Full Chalice, operated by a large human named José.
- The largest inn in town is the Blue Dragon Inn (formerly the Singing Sloth), run by Dax Sheppard and Kristin Bell. It has a main stage inside and an outdoor stage on each wing, and constantly features new and upcoming bards, making it the hottest night spot on the western frontier.
- The Arrow of Ice is an inn run by Marius Pangol and Edgar Vess, middlingly sized but full of what the region has come to know as the Pangol charm.
