The townfolk in Titan's Reach were going about their ordinary lives in their ordinary ways. They were making the usual preparations for the usual new year festival when a band of adventurers rolled into town and upset it all.

The group consisted of William Braid, an arrogant and flirtatious warrior; Torvar, a dwarven wizard who speaks little; Berg, a halfling thief and their group's management.  They were also accompanied by a human Cleric, Erin. The group bought up everything potentially useful from the Scratching post, including Tails, and headed to the nearby ruins. Their goal, to rekindle a magical item.

Less than a day after their departure, Erin and Tails returned. They were beaten, bloodied, and exhausted. They had found the ruins occupied by giant spiders. The other party members had been killed or captured. Erin petitioned the townsfolk to mount a rescue mission.

Those strong, brave, or foolish enough to join the expedition prepared to set out at the next dawn.
