The Chained Angel & The Angry Tinker
- The angel directs the party to go find Theranos down by trash heap, on a lower level. He should have the angel’s hammer, which they will need to free him. The angel’s name is Joyful Steel (for short).
- The party travels deeper into the ruins under the chapel. Everything of any possible value has been removed. There are signs of combat, but no bodies.
- A voice out of the darkness says, “they are looking for a hammer.” There is a lanky one-eyed creature in the dark, hanging from the ceiling. It is a gnothic.
- It injects a fact into Mauritius’ head: he sees his father defending his mother from a woman. Half of the woman’s face is horribly charred and that eye burns with green balefire. He also takes 10 necrotic damage.
- 2 more nothic creep up from behind. The make a series of attacks that inject more truths into the heads of the party:
- Mauritius sees his mother unable to cast the Lightning spell that would normally save them.
- Venayo sees that Malu is just him. Venayo can stop the violence any time he wants. He is ultimately responsible for all his actions.
- Mauritius sees one of the kids from his school being tempted/captured by the ettercap priest.
- Venayo see a true memory of Takis a few years after Venayo crippled him. He is attempting to do all the normal things a hunter would do. When he can’t, all his anger is focused on Venayo and the one moment that changed his life.
- Mauritius sees his mother unable to cast the Lightning spell that would normally save them.
- The party takes a short rest in a chamber.
- A skeleton in a suit of armor comes by to collect the bodies and completely ignores the party.
- The party follows the trail of viscera left by the nothic said as the armor drags them away. They come to a large natural cavern filled with piles of all manner of things. There is a dwarf sitting on a throne atop a pile of junk. His skin is deep red, his beard is fire, and his eyes are like burning coals.
- He spots the party and moves to talk to them. He accuses them of coming on behalf of the angel to steal the hammer. The party dissembles, countering that they aren’t technically doing anything FOR the Angel. They instead open negotiations for help dealing with the curse.
- It emerges that Theranos is the product of extreme isolation and deep envy of Joyful Steel’s abilities. The party accidentally reveals that the door keeping him in is now broken. As he discusses his plans for what he would do in the outside the world, the party realizes they really can’t let him out. Aiya and Mauritius attempt to attack him by surprise…!
