Dear Diary,
Goodish news, I was mostly wrong. The adventurers were not all dead when we got there, and nobody died getting them out. Given the circumstances that's borderline Miraculous. However, their magical ritual did go awry, releasing some ancient curse and possibly dooming us all. Still, better than expected.
Erin seems pretty busted up about Billy Braid dying under her watch. I wish could do something for her, but she's been pretty open about her feelings about me. Celandriel said she'd keep an eye on her. That's probably best.
I'm more worried about Torvar, anyway. I wanted him to stay in town but the others think he needs to be punished for his mistakes so he's out in the ruins being fed scraps. I can't think of anything more dangerous than an unsupervised, ambitious wizard with nothing to lose. I've already let him know that if the weather gets bad or he needs to do reading in town, there's a room for him at my place.
What I really hope is that he'll spend enough time in town see the people that he's endangered, and maybe start to care about them.
For now though, I'll be running the food out to him whenever I can and making sure he has someone to talk to. Or not talk to. He doesn't say much. What he needs right now is a friend, not a jailer. Maybe I'll see if Strago wants to collaborate with him. They have more in common than I think Torvar knows.
Sincerely,
Mauritius, Master of Unlikely Survivals, Earl of an Increasingly Cursed Wending
