Dear Diary,

Some fool adventurers went digging where they shouldn't and, surprise, most of them died. The sole survivor is now dragging others in to enact a suicidal rescue mission. Those "others" happen to be me and others from The Reach. Obviously a group of merchants and minstrels are going to do better than a team of well equipped and experienced specialists. 

We're all going to die trying to rescue three corpses. Maybe we'll have the decency to definitely die instead of probably dying like the last group. At least then nobody would feel obligated to come looking for us.

Why am I going? Like I said, they're probably dead, which means maybe alive. Besides, if I don't go, someone else will and I'm more disposable than most of the people around here. 

Who else is coming? A collection of folks with too much compassion and too little sense. Tails and Mallow, I'm least worried about. I get the impression they know when to cut and run. I don't anticipate too many foolhardy Heroics from them. Strago is coming, that's comforting. He's usually a pretty solid voice of reason and if Delores is letting him come, then he probably knows what he's doing. 

Celendrial, though. Why is she coming? First off, she really shouldn't be spending time in those ruins for obvious reasons. Also, she cares too much about other people for her own good and I worry she's been listening to too many of Mallow's songs and started believing them. She's either coming to play hero or to protect me. Either way... If she dies...

Well I don't know what I'm gonna do so that had better not happen. 

Maybe it's worth talking to our blacksmith. I think I heard that he did some cave diving when he was in the service. Maybe he has some advice about keeping people alive in the depths.
